JoAnn Vickery Cook
Since I have always had a keen interest in people, how they think, how they make decisions and then act on their choices, I decided to train as a life coach with Martha Beck Inc. I completed the training and became certified in early 2018. It has opened new vistas for me, and is one of the best choices I have made.
My coaching practice gives me the opportunity to be helpful and to contribute to the well-being of others. I get to share the tools, resources and guidance that have also assisted me in the pursuit of my own dreams. I am watching those dreams come true with awe and gratitude.
Because of my own experience and the stellar training I have received, I help others who are in transition or who are desiring a reset, to explore new ways of finding – or rediscovering – their own path and purpose.
I am committed to exploring and sharing creative ways to accomplish this process. My husband and I recently put the finishing touches our new home, complete with studio space for me, and a boatshop for him. So, in this new bright space I offer “Playshops.” To explain, I use expressive art – which incorporates color, collage, paint, artbook journaling, fiber arts, etc. – to facilitate activities that can stimulate and inspire. Being able to offer these sessions seems to be a magic ticket to connection and growth.
I lived my first 18 years in Montana, with Yellowstone National Park in our back yard. I still feel the deep roots connecting me to that home, and I am grateful that I get to go back on occasion to visit. The sense of knowing and belonging to a place helps me feel grounded.
After some travel and adventure in my post college years, looking to find myself (as we all must), I settled with my husband Tommy in a seaside town on the Olympic Peninsula; we consider it our own version of paradise. After more than 3 decades, it is also home. We have built a beautiful life, with our careers and friendships and activities that have been rewarding. And we’re not done yet!
As with each of us, the ups and downs of life have not passed me by – we are all here to live and learn. I wouldn’t change a thing though: it brought me to where I am now, which is a good and happy place. I am excited and willing to share my experience and insight with others, and to listen to your stories.
In addition to my one-on-one coaching practice, I offer Playshops in my studio. Playshops are my version of the traditional workshop, with a flair — a moment in time where you experience self-expression through various modes of creative activity. The main purpose is to, first, have Fun! It is a hands-on opportunity to learn from experts and practitioners who share and teach their craft. It is also a safe place to connect with other like-minded individuals who are interested in expanding their horizons.
Some examples, among others, are art journaling, gelli-plate printing, collage, paint and color, book making, hand applique, and even creating seasonal soups and breads.
I offer a full spectrum of engaging activities to awaken your curiosity, imagination, and your own unique gift of creativity. It is also a chance to forge new connections. I announce upcoming Playshops in my Newsletter, so be sure to sign up below.
